This project was one of Space Design’s favorites, made even more special by the wonderful clients—trustworthy, open, and eager for creative input.
Located in the mountains of Cayey, an hour from the capital, the home is surrounded by the lush beauty of the tropical forest. The transformation was extensive, with a complete renovation that included expanding the balcony into an almost wraparound deck, seamlessly extending the lower level’s living space.
What was once a humble raised ranch evolved into a modern, open-concept home. The master bedroom was also expanded, incorporating structural ceiling beams into the design by wrapping them in wood, making them a striking architectural focal point.
Locally sourced materials were key to the project’s authenticity—terrazzo tiles, cane webbing for the closet doors, and Almendro wood for the kitchen cabinets gave the home a distinctive island character. Given the client’s passion for cooking, two kitchens were designed: an upstairs family kitchen and a spacious open-concept kitchen downstairs, perfect for entertaining.
While most of the rooms remained compact after the renovation—except for the master suite—Space Design maximized every inch, blending mid-century aesthetics with tropical influences. The minimalist approach ensured that the decor enhanced the space rather than overwhelming it, creating an open, airy feel.
Space Design led the entire project from concept to completion, overseeing every aspect of the transformation. With the support of a trusted contractor team and the collaboration of an architect friend, the vision was brought to life seamlessly.
As one of Space Design’s final projects in Puerto Rico, this home was a true joy to create—a space meant to be lived in, cherished, and celebrated by truly wonderful people.
